Overview

This guide outlines the validated component configuration required to install the OSC Fabrication & Finishes Rear Caliper Adapter System on your Mazda RX-7 FD3S ('92-'02). 

The Standard Performance Kit increases rear braking capability by allowing fitment of a motorsport-grade Wilwood caliper paired with a 12.72" rear rotor configuration. 

⚠️ This setup deletes the factory rear parking brake.
⚠️ For off-road / racing use only.

What This Product Is

The OSC Rear Caliper Adapter is a precision CNC-machined bracket set engineered specifically for the FD3S rear upright geometry. 

Each adapter is:

  • Machined from 7075-T6 Aluminum
  • CNC precision cut for dimensional accuracy
  • Bead blasted for a uniform surface finish
  • Anodized in matte black for corrosion resistance and durability

The adapters are designed to properly position a Wilwood Forged Superlite Internal caliper over a 12.72" rear rotor when paired with the validated components listed in this guide. 

⚠️ This is NOT a universal bracket. It is engineered specifically for the '92-'02 Mazda RX7 FD3S.

  • Zinc-plated Mounting Hardware

What Is NOT Included

The following components must be sourced separately:

  • Brake Calipers
  • Brake Rotors
  • Brake Pads
  • Brake Lines and Fittings

Standard Performance Kit - Validated Components

The components below have been physically installed and verified for fitment with the OSC FD rear adapter system. 

Only the parts listed in this section are currently validated. 

Brake Caliper

Wilwood Forged Superlite Internal - 0.81" Rotor Width

Validated Part Numbers: 

  • 120-11128 (Hard Anodized)
  • 120-11128-BK (Black)
  • 120-11128-RD (Red)

Brake Pads

Pad Shape: Wilwood 7420

Compound selection depends on vehicle use. 

Brake Rotor

12.72" (323mm) Front Rotor from a '04-'11 Mazda RX-8 w/ Sport Suspension

Rotor Diameter: 12.72"

Compatible Rotor Width: .081" 

Only this rotor configuration has been tested with the Standard Performance Kit. 

Parking Brake

This configuration removed the OEM parking brake system. 

No mechanical or electronic parking brake solution is available with the Standard Performance Kit.

Development Note:
OSC Fabrication & Finishes is currently developing a compatible electronic parking brake solution for the FD3S rear big brake system. Details, specifications, and release information will be announced separately.

Brake Lines & Fittings

Caliper Inlet: 1/8-27 NPT

Recommended Fitting: Wilwood 220-13125 (90* Elbow - 1/8"-27 NPT to -3AN)

Use high quality -3AN PTFE braided brake lines.

Proper routing and clearance verification is the installers responsibility. 

Wheel Clearance

This upgrade increases rear brake size significantly. 

Before final installation:

  • Verify wheel barrel diameter clearance
  • Verify spoke clearance
  • Perform test fitment prior to final assembly

Wheel clearance varies by wheel design and offset. 

Installation Notes

  • Ensure caliper is centered over rotor.
  • Confirm proper pad sweep alignment.
  • Use supplied hardware only. Do not substitute mounting hardware.
  • Apply high-strength thread locker (Loctite 271 | Red) on all adapter and caliper mounting fasteners. 
  • Clean all threads thoroughly before torquing fasteners. 

Torque fasteners as follows:

  • Adapter to Spindle (M10x1.25, Class 10.9): 45ft-lb (61Nm)
  • Caliper to Adapter (7/16-14, Grade 8): 55-60ft-lb (75-81Nm)

Note: Hand Tools Only. Do not use an impact wrench. 

Removal of fasteners installed with high-strength thread locker may require localized heat.

If frequent caliper removal is expected, steel thread inserts are recommended for long-term durability.

Fully bleed braking system before operation.

Professional installation is strongly recommended.
